Selig (attr.) Egg Chair and Ottoman

Looking for that perfect holiday gift for someone with great MCM eggspectations (sorry) this year?  We've got just the thing.  New to the shop today is this beautiful egg chair and ottoman by Selig (attr.).  It is as comfortable as it is good looking.  The upholstery is vintage, but not original.  Chair: appx. 41" h., 33" w., 30" d.  Ottoman:  18" h., 21" w., 21: d.  American, c. 1960's  SOLD

John Widdicomb Hollywood Regency Chest

I have this problem.  I fall in love with these exuberant pieces and picture exactly where and how they could be used to make a room come alive.  Then as I'm driving back to Canada, I usually think....damn, what have I done?  No one will see the possibilities.  Fortunately, I have enough clients who love a broad mix and know just how to make the perfect interior cocktail.  So.....here we have MCM (Mid-century Majestic) at its finest.  This Louis/ French Provincial/ Hollywood Regency style chest by John Widdicomb is a 10 out of 10.  I've never seen better craftsmanship and the condition is near mint.  Hand carved, hand painted, nine drawer chest in an antiqued white finish with embossed and gold paint decoration.  The ornate pulls are patinated bronze and four of the drawers have dividers.  There is a custom glass top.  "Decorating is Fun"  - Dorothy Draper  ...or at least is should be.  69" l., 21" d., 33.5" h.  American, c. 1950's  SOLD

Drexel 'Consensus' Desk

The consensus is....this is a stunner.  From the Drexel 'Consensus' collection, this simply sophisticated, seventies chic, ash desk has three drawers with a curved center drawer.  The base and pulls are brushed brass.  Note the very handsome ash wood grain on the top.  It's finished on the back, so it can float in a room.  54" w., 30" d. 30.5" h.  American, c. 1970's  SOLD
Condition:  Very good-good vintage condition with a fair bit of patina on the brass and a few minor imperfections to the finish.

Carolina Mirror Co. Mirror

Simple, chic, seventies, brushed brass and polished chrome framed mirror with beveled glass.  A very well made and substantial mirror by the Carolina Mirror Company.    38" h., 25.25" w.  American, c. 1970's  SOLD

Our 20/20 Vision

Our holiday windows look forward this year.  We're looking forward to 2020 and a new year, a new decade, and a new chapter.  We just purchased a new old house in our new old town.  We're very happy to let everyone know we're going 'home', and moving back to Port Hope!  For our friends and clients who have been so helpful and supportive while we searched throughout Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia before we realized Port Hope was always where we belonged, thank you for your input, enthusiasm and support.  Once we settle in, I'll be searching for a Port Hope location for the shop.  In the meantime, the Hamilton shop will be open until March.  We'll be posting new hours after the holidays.  Wishing everyone all the best for the holidays and the new year!!

   

Rway Chest

This midwestern blond beauty was made by the Rway Furniture Company of Sheboygan Wisconsin.  The sleek, clean-lined chest in bleached mahogany has four slightly bowed drawers which sit on a platform base.  38.25" w., 19" d., 32.5" h.  American, c. 1950's  SOLD
Condition: Very good vintage condition with age appropriate wear and a few minor veneer blemishes.  The top and drawer fronts are in super shape and the piece shows beautifully. 

'Magic Box' Desk/ Cabinet by Mummenthaler and Meier (attr.)

Originally designed by Swiss architects Ernst Mummenthaler and Otto Meier, the teak 'Magic Box' is a super stylish and functional desk with many shelved compartments, a single drawer and a writing surface with additional arms that fold out.  The desk surface and drawer slide back into the unit and the sides close to form a cabinet when not in use as a desk.  There is a key lock with a set of keys to secure the cabinet.  Closed;  32.5" w., 21.5"d 45.5" h.  Fully open; 64.5" w., 30" d., 45.5" h.  c. 1960's  SOLD

Turner Faux Bois Mirror

TCM.  This Turner classic mirror is a very realistic looking faux bois, made of gilded composite/ molded plastic.  The mirrored glass is bevelled.  It's a great size for a small foyer or powder room, or where a little hit of bright and light is needed.  38" h., 16.5" w.  American, c. 1960's  SOLD

'Janus Collection' for John Stuart; Credenza

10 out of 10.  In terms of design, craftsmanship, condition and function, it has it all.  This super stylish credenza was designed as part of the 'Janus Collection' by The Mount Airy Furniture Company for John Stuart, N.Y.C.  It's made of walnut and has patterned inlay on the cabinet doors as well as on the top and sides.  There is an abundance of storage.  The center has six drawers, four small and two large.  Flanking, doors open to four more drawers on either side.  It's very versatile and would function beautifully in a living room, bedroom, dining room or office.  72" l., 19" d., 31" h.  American, c. 1960's  SOLD

Milo Baughman (attr.) Cantilevered Chair

Sharp from all angles, this 1970's chic, cantilevered chair by Milo Baughman (attr.) is as comfortable as it is attractive.  The frame is brass and the velvet upholstery is original.  30" w., 30" d., 30" h.  American, c. 1970's  SOLD

Lane Furniture Chest and Cabinet

 

We've featured quite a few pieces by Lane Furniture over the years.  These are the best!  With a very smart style and scale, this pair could go anywhere.  The chest has three ample drawers with brushed aluminum pulls and legs.  The cabinet also has brushed aluminum pulls and legs, and the doors open to a compartment with one stationary shelf.  Both pieces are newly professionally refinished.  We've never seen any pieces from this collection before and couldn't find any examples online.  Paul McCobb designed a number of lines for Lane and this collection may have been designed by him.  It's very similar to pieces he did for Calvin Furniture.  Either way, the line is fantastic and just as modern today as when it was designed in the early 1960's.  Each piece is 30" w., 17" d., 27.75" h.  American, c. 1960's  SOLD

Henredon Asian Modern Console

Lantern Wall Sconces

If you've got the right space, this sensational and monumental pair of lantern wall sconces would make a big decorating impact.  The four-candle sconces have patinated brushed brass frames with glass doors and side panels.  One sconce has a slightly darker patina, but less of a difference in person than in photo.  37" h., 12" w., 7.5" d.  American, c. 1960's  SOLD

Drexel 'Et Cetera' Chinoiserie Cabinet

Maximalist Chinoiserie!  This stunning cabinet was designed as part of the Drexel 'Et Cetera' collection.  We've had other pieces from the collection and lots of other Chinoiserie pieces over the years.  They're almost always lacquered in black, occasionally red or green.  This is the first in ivory, and may have been a custom order.  The cabinet feels really fresh with the lighter coloring.  The handpainted decoration is also lighter and more modern feeling.  The top of the two-piece cabinet has a wider center section flanked by two narrower sections.  There are nine adjustable glass shelves and four pot lights.  The base of the cabinet has three compartments, each with a stationary shelf.  80" h., 55" w., 14.5" d.  American, c. 1970's  SOLD
