Legend has it that the Carlton House style of desk was originally designed in the 18th century for the Prince of Wales, who later became George IV, by George Hepplewhite. It was named after Carlton House which was the London residence of the Prince of Wales. This handsome burl walnut example has the classic "U" shaped top with four center drawers, sloped drawers on either side and an embossed leather writing surface. Below is a long center drawer with two side drawers. The desk sits on four tapered, fluted legs.
