Olexander Wlasenko; "Bed and Brando"

Marco Bellocchio had nothing to loose with his directorial debut "I pungi in tasca" (1965).  Caustic and irreverent, the film recently resurged as an Italian cinema classic.  Paola Pitagora plays Giulia.  She watches wearily from her bed.  The iconic photo on the headboard is a 1953 publicity shot from "The Wild One" starring Marlon Brando.  Charcoal on paper.  Framed, 30" h., 63" l.  SOLD

Olexander Wlasenko; "Nantes"

The source of inspiration for this drawing is a 1961 French film described as a "musical without music".  Anouk Aimee starred in the title role of this film entitled "Lola".  In this drawing the cabaret dancer, Lola, has a chance encounter with Roland on the streets of Nantes.  Roland and Lola share a common past, but can their bond ever be reconnected?  Having just watched an interesting documentary on Ron Galella, "Smash His Camera", another iconic image came to mind on first viewing of this piece.  Charcoal on paper.  Framed, 54" l., 27" h.  $3,100.00

Olexander Wlasenko; "Grab"

Inspired by a brief incident from Antonioni's 1961 "L'eclisse", this scene has little bearing on what comes before or after it.  It does, however, prompt clues about the handsome character played by Alain Deleon.  In this moment he grips an unsuspecting passerby on the streets of Rome.  She reacts in the moments that follow.  Charcoal on paper.  Framed, 72" l., 42" h.  SOLD

Olexander Wlasenko; "Motion"

This drawing is a conceptual and compositional departure for Olexander.  This vertical sequence of frames is inspired by the Italian movie, "Prima della Rivoluzione" and marks it's fiftieth anniversary this year.  Cinematic movement is implied by reading the drawing from bottom to top.  An elegantly suited man walks toward the camera as a stylish woman walks across the screen.  A woman on a bicycle can also be seen in the background.  Destinations differ, but in these drawn sequences, everyone is on the same page.  Charcoal on paper.  Framed,  95 1/2" h., 29 1/2" l.  $5,600.00
