Olexander Wlasenko; Stairwell

Fresh from our framer, this is one our favorite works by Olexander.  The mood is beautiful.  The drawing was inspired by a scene in a 1961 French mystery film Paris nous appartient, sometimes translated as Paris is Ours.  It was directed by Jacques Rivette and stars Betty Schneider.  Begun in 1957 and completed three years later, it was then-critic Rivette's first full-length film as a director and one of the first works of the French New Wave.

Unravelling is a drawing composite based on the film Le Combat dans lile.  In the center scene, the telephone cord extension gets caught up on the female actress and the unravelling begins....

Olexander Wlasenko; Free Play

Free Play recalls a scene from Les Quatre Cents Coups, a 1959 French debut drama by director Francois Truffaut.  One of the defining films of the French New Wave.  The film is about Antoine Doinel, a misunderstood adolescent in Paris who is thought by his parents and teachers to be a troublemaker.  Here Antoine concentrates like a pinball wizard.

Olexander Wlasenko; Slow Dance

Bernardo Bertolucci was only 21 when he directed his debut 1962 film, "La commare secca".  These two moments appear near the climactic ending.  She dances with a man wearing a striped shirt.  Tears well up in her eyes.  Could this be their last dance?

Olexander Wlasenko; "The Descent"

The Descent was inspired by a 1965 French thriller starring Marie-France Pisier in the role of Anna.  In this scene, the mysteriously seductive cabaret singer descends to the stage.  Anna recognizes someone in the audience.  Her facial expression can't conceal her wariness.  Will the show go on?  Charcoal on paper  78" l., 36" h.  $4,300.00
