"Beswick" Stand with Mirror and Polar Bear

This one goes out to our friends on the East Coast of the U.S. today.  The Beswick Pottery Company began in Longton, England in 1896 and produced pieces with some of the most interesting designs and glazes to come out of that country.  During the 1920's and 1930's, and well into the 1960's, they employed many of the best pottery designers in England.  This extremely rare piece was designed by Mr. Watkins in 1934 and features a cream glazed polar bear on an icy blue glacier.  It has it's original round mirror with a bevelled edge.  The mirror slips into an opening at the back of the glacier.  7" h., 6" w., 5" l.  English, c. 1934  SOLD
