Captain Thomas Brown; Conchology of Great Britain and Ireland Shell Prints

This set of four beautifully framed prints are original, hand-colored illustrations from Captain Thomas Brown's 1827 Conchology of Great Britain and Ireland.  Captain Brown was a well-known 19th c. British artist and naturalist.  He traveled extensively and drew his subjects from live specimens found on his travels.  The four engraved plates have grey mats with marbelized paper decoration and gilt wood frames.  Frames, 18.5" h., 16.5" w.  English, c. 1827  SOLD
