Halfred Tygesen (1890-1951)

Halfred Tygesen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and came to Canada in 1926.  He had attended art school in Denmark and became a member of the Danish Royal Academy.  In Canada, Tygesen introduced a technique for pastel "painting".  He travelled across the country painting scenes from Stanley Park in Vancouver to the Ontario countryside.  He also painted Danish landscapes and seascapes based on drawings he had done before he moved to Canada.  While he was quite prolific and sold through a wide variety of channels, including the Eaton College store, his paintings are becoming increasingly harder to come by.

Halfred Tygesen; "Winter Landscape"

For those of you already missing winter and longing for the beauty of snow covered hills and fields, this is just for you.  Tygesen captures winter's softness and light beautifully in this landscape where the white snow turns to lavenders and violets in the shadows and the pine trees shimmer with hits of orange.  24" l., 19 1/2" w.  Canadian, c.1930's  SOLD

Knocking on Heaven's Door

Heard on the road this week....I first heard Antony Hegarty's uniquely beautiful voice about four years ago as the lead singer for a band called "Hercules and Love Affair".  Instantly I was reminded of some of my favorite vocalists from the eighties like Alison Moyet and Marc Almond.  While in New York this past week, I heard this song and the unmistakable voice.  It was from an earlier band of Antony's that I didn't know called "Antony and the Johnsons"....a nice find.
