The pineapple has a long and rich history as a symbol of hospitality. In colonial America, pineapples were rare, expensive and considered the most beautiful of exotic fruits. If, as a guest, you were treated with pineapple at a dinner party, it meant you were held in high regard. I am not sure about the rarity of this pair of glass pineapple lamps, but they are certainly beautiful. The body is faceted glass and the leaves and base are gilded metal. The hardback fabric shades are new. 33" h., 18" diam. American, c. 1950's
