Milo Baughman for Directional; Open Arm Lounge Chair

Mint Milo.  This one is a Wow!  In the last decade, I don't think I have seen an upholstered piece of this age in such unbelievable original condition.  It's showroom fresh and has perhaps become even more stylish with age.  The fabric is a beautiful cut velvet in tones of cream, taupe and beige.  It was designed by Milo Baughman for Directional.  Directional was founded in 1950 by Bud Mesberg, and was one of the first companies to embrace original furniture design.  Included in their roster of designers were Paul Evans, Kip Stewart, Paul McCobb, Vladimir Kagan and Milo Baughman.  It's finds like this that make all those miles worthwhile.  29" h., 29" w., 26" d.  American, c. 1970's  SOLD
Condition:  Near mint.

LaBarge Eglomise Mirror

This is the largest size, and a less common horizontal format, of the LaBarge eglomise style mirrors.  This one is a stunner.  The glass frame is reverse painted and gold leafed with a floral, Chinoiserie design.  The piece is artist signed and dated in the lower left corner.  The mirror is beveled and the outer and inner metal borders of the frame have a gold finish.  51" w., 41" h.  American, c.1980's  SOLD
Condition:  Excellent vintage condition with very minor surface wear.

Edward Wormley for Dunbar; Burl and Glass Coffee Table

10/10.  Invest in the best.  Edward Wormley (1907-1995) was an American furniture and interior designer who was born in Chicago and started his career as an interior designer for Marshall Fields.  He left Marshall Fields for the Dunbar Furniture Company, and in 1944 was charged with modernizing Dunbar's furniture lines.  He had a long and successful career as Dunbar's director of design until the company was sold in 1970.  He is widely recognized as one of the leaders in bringing modern design to America.  His work has been shown in major exhibitions, including the Boston Museum of Art in 1951, the Triennale XIII in Milan in 1964, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1983.  His designs can be found today in the M.F.A. in Boston and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Montreal.  This table was designed by Wormley for Dunbar and is perfectly timeless in its simplicity and balance of modernity and warmth.  The base is Olive burl and the top is 3/4 inch thick glass.  The table is in nearly mint condition and retains its metal Dunbar tag.  This table is currently retailing for up to $15,000.00 CAN.  But as always, quality, design and value are our hat trick here in Hamilton.  17" h., 41.5" diam.  American, c. 1960's  SOLD
Condition:  Near mint.

Kanpo Shiozawa; Hand Painted Screen for Fuji-torii

Kanpo Shiozawa was born in Nagano Japan in 1925 and currently lives in Tokyo.  He is a graduate of the Tokyo Arts University.  He has been creating screen and framed paintings for Fuji-torii since 1950 and is still working for them today at the age of 93.  He has received numerous awards for his work, and in 1996 was commissioned to make fusuma paintings for the Zenkoji Temple in Nagano.  This four-panel screen with the understated 'White Plum' design was made of multi-layered Washi paper pasted onto a wooden frame and then gold leaves were added and hand painted.  It is signed and the original Fuji-torii labels are on the back.  The same design is still available for special order and retails for about $1,200.00 CAD.  66.25" w., 36.25" h., .75" d.  Japanese, 2nd half 20th c. SOLD

Gilbert Rohde for John Widdicomb; Chest of Drawers

It’s a great thing, having been in this business essentially since I was 6, that there are still those pieces that can get the heart racing. Gilbert Rohde is one of my all time favourite designers. In the past 10 years we have only featured one bedroom group and one clock of his design (first and second pics.) Amongst many accolades, he is credited with turning Herman Miller into a modern furniture company. The bedroom group we featured was designed for Herman Miller. While he is best known for his Miller designs, he designed for a number of other furniture companies as well, including Widdicomb. After meticulous restoration, a very rare and beautiful chest he designed for John Widdicomb is now 'in store'.  The four drawer chest has bookmatched, exotic wood drawer fronts with original polished brass knobs.  The top and sides are white lacquered wood.  The feet are ebonized.  American, c. 1930's  46" l., 20" d., 35" h.  SOLD
Condition:  Excellent restored condition.

American of Martinsville Chest

American Beauty.  We've had many beautiful pieces by American of Martinsville over the years, and this is one of the best!  Six drawer walnut chest with great modern lines and nice details like the wrap around drawer pulls and the faceted feet.  Normally we don't show the mirrors with chests as they can feel a little dated.  This is the exception.  The mirror feels very modern and is shown attached with brackets.  It also has hooks for hanging, but if you would rather not use the mirror, it is removable.  60" l., 18.5" d., 30.5" h.  Mirror, 43.5" h., 25.5" w., 2" d.  American, c. 1960's  SOLD
Condition:  Excellent vintage condition with very minor restoration.
